Artist: Coast
Release Year: 1995
Description:Coast is the primary songwriting project of Swedish musician and producer Magnus Lassila.
Originally formed in the late 1990s around a humble four-track tape recorder, the project has followed a winding path through cassette recordings,
ADAT machines, and eventually into the modern digital studio. Throughout these changes, the goal has remained remarkably consistent: write songs and see where they lead.
Unlike many of Lassila's more conceptual projects, Coast is driven first and foremost by songwriting.
The project moves freely between rock, pop, singer-songwriter, alternative, country, ballads, AOR, and West Coast-inspired sounds, guided more by the needs of the song than by any particular genre.
Melody comes first.
Everything else can be figured out later.
Over the years Coast has become a home for a wide variety of musical ideas: intimate acoustic pieces, layered studio productions,
guitar-driven rock songs, reflective ballads, and the occasional voyage into yacht rock waters.
Some recordings were carefully crafted over months, others captured quickly before inspiration could escape.
The vocals range from confident to hopeful, the productions from modest to ambitious, but the spirit remains the same throughout:
an enduring love of songs, stories, and the simple joy of building music one track at a time.
More than a project, Coast is an ongoing journey.
A collection of songs written across decades, connected by curiosity, persistence, and the belief that the next song might be the best one yet.
