Moving Images

Moving Images

Artist: Magnus Lassila
Release Year: 2013

Description: Moving Images is a collection of imagined soundtracks — music for films that don’t exist, scenes that never played, and stories told entirely through tone, pacing, and atmosphere.
Each track functions like a vignette: a window into a world suspended in motion, where emotion leads and narrative follows. With nods to everything from classic synth scores, 70-ies action, ambient cinema, and minimalist drama, the album evokes everything from lost highways to dreamlike confrontations to moments of fragile resolve.
There are no scripts. No cuts. Just scores in search of pictures — waiting for the listener to project their own story across them.
Among the tracks are a series of warped tangos — most notably Finks Tango (originally Finsk Tango, until a fateful typo gave it a new life) — featuring the rare inclusion of dragspel. It’s not the instrument I play best, but here it adds exactly the right kind of wobble — the kind that makes you wonder whether the bandoneon player is lost in thought or just slightly drunk.
