This original release of Underwater Music was issued by Fluere Tapes as a limited cassette edition — a carefully curated flow of modular compositions, edited and trimmed to fit the time constraints of the medium.
Though composed digitally, this version was sequenced for analog immersion: two sides, one breath, all pressure.
Original Artist Statement:
For these tracks I have tried to amalgamate two separate themes:
• Program music, to envision a certain event or series of events through music.
• Sound travels faster in denser materials like water, which affects properties like frequency response, doppler effect, and virtually nullifies natural echo.
How does music sound underwater? How do you depict events within or around water? The simple answer is — “I don’t know.” But I’ve tried to envision the muddiness of being submerged, and built these compositions around ideas like tide, wave motion, and deep currents.
This music tells stories, but also invites meditation. It may be best enjoyed while submerged yourself — ideally, during a bath.
